Community Information Worker
This role offers the first point of contact for clients who use our service, providing signposting, referrals, and booking appointments.

Manchester CAB Requirements

  • Attendance for a minimum of 6 hours per week
  • Attendance at monthly worker’s meetings
  • Keep up to date with information by reading and discussion
  • Develop an understanding of and commitment to the Aims, Principles and Policies of the Association

Role Description for Community Information Worker

1. Service Delivery

  • Open reception and prepare for the opening of the Bureau
  • Meet and welcome clients when they arrive at the Bureau
  • Offer details of the times when advisers are available, both at the home Bureau and also at other sites and external agencies
  • When the Bureau is open, ensure clients are seen in the correct order and keep them informed of waiting times etc
  • When the Bureau is open, keep advisers informed of clients waiting, appointments arriving etc
  • Make appointments for clients where appropriate
  • Identify clients who are eligible for Legal Help and make appointments with specialist advisers accordingly
  • Offer information in the form of leaflets, claim forms, self-help packs
  • Receive clients arriving for pre-booked appointments

2 Administration

  • Keep written records of clients visiting the Bureau
  • Ensure that stocks of leaflets, claim forms, self-help packs are maintained
  • Photocopy, fax and use other office equipment as required

Personal Skill & Qualities

  • Understand and show a commitment to the aims, principles of the CAB Service and its Equal Opportunities policies
  • Good interpersonal skills, in particular tact, sensitivity and patience in dealings with Bureau clients
  • Ability to monitor and maintain own standards
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise own work
  • Have a flexible approach to working and a willingness to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing a high quality reception service for all clients
