Social Policy Volunteer
This role involves working with the Social Policy Co-ordinator, collecting data and providing statistical information on a wide range of the current social policy issues.

Manchester CAB Requirements

  • Attendance for a minimum of 6 hours per week
  • Attendance at monthly worker’s meetings
  • Keep up to date with information by reading and discussion
  • Develop an understanding of and commitment to the Aims, Principles and Policies of the Association

Role Description for Social Policy Volunteer

  • Provide support to bureau workers to encourage, and maintain their involvement in social policy work.
  • Support bureau workers carrying out social policy projects.
  • Identify local social policy initiatives in conjunction with bureau staff, NACAB Social Policy Department and the Social Policy Bulletin.
  • Inform bureau staff of social policy issues through meetings, bulletins etc.
  • Liaise with external organisations, such as, local authorities, Members of Parliament
  • To undertake relevant training.
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain administrative systems, following bureaux systems and procedures.
  • Able to research information and use statistical information, and assist in preparation of reports.

Personal Skills & Qualities

  • Understand and be committed to social policy.
  • Willingness to work within, the aims, principles and policies of the CAB service.
  • Able to communicate information verbally and in writing, in plain language.
  • Able to identify issues of social concern.
  • Ability to use computers.
  • Flexibility and an ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information.
  • Numeracy skills to understand statistics and check calculations.
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing training.
