A. No. All that you need to know will be taught to you during a comprehensive training programme. We want people who are good communicators and who have the capacity and willingness to learn. You will be supported all the way by a Guidance Tutor.
Q. How much time do I need to give?
A. You must be able to give a minimum of 10 hours per week. At the moment our Bureaux only operate during office hours (Monday – Friday, 9 – 5), so you need to be available during these times. If you can meet this minimum, we will try and be as flexible as possible about days and times you work.
Q. How long does the training take?
A. The length of your training really depends on how many days you are available to work with us, and how quickly you learn. Generally speaking the more time you can spend on your training, the quicker you will qualify. The training does not have a rigid structure and there are no time limits; we believe that it is important to enable people to learn at their own pace.
Q. What other courses are available?
A. We offer a variety of other training course, including courses on Welfare Rights, Debt, Housing and Employment. In addition you will be able to attend relevant courses offered by other organisations such as NACAB and Manchester Advice.
Q. Will a get a qualification at the end of my training?
A. Yes. A NACAB Certificate in Generalist Advice Work. Our training is highly respected by many other agencies, and if you are looking for paid work in advice/community work fields, the experience you will gain from working with us will be extremely helpful.
Q. Do the Bureau pay my travel expenses?
A. We ask people to try to use the most economical form of transport. We will pay your bus or train fares and 20p per mile if you travel by car.
Q. Do the Bureau pay my childcare expenses?
A. Unfortunately there are no childcare expenses available this year.
